Before you call anyone

  • Check whether you need to. A large share of the pages on this site end with instructions and no phone number, because the job is genuinely one you can do yourself. Read the page for your problem first.
  • Know your deductible if this is storm damage. A claim you barely recover on still goes on your record. When a claim is not worth filing.
  • Know the age of the roof or the equipment. It settles most repair-or-replace arguments before they start.
  • Get three quotes. If two contractors measure the same house differently, that alone tells you something.
  • Never accept an offer to cover your deductible. That is a proposal to misrepresent the loss to your insurer, and it is your name on the claim.
