Short version: when a call from this site connects to a contractor, we may be paid a referral fee. That is the entire business model. No advertising, no sponsored placements, no paid reviews.

What we are

A publisher. We research what fails on houses, why it fails, and what the work should cost, and we put that in writing. Where it makes sense to hire someone, we offer a service line to reach a contractor and we may earn a fee if you use it.

What we are not

We are not a contractor. We do not perform exterior work of any kind, and nobody here will ever be on your roof.
We do not accept payment to recommend a specific company, and we do not publish rankings of contractors.
We do not run display advertising, and no third party pays to place content on this site.
We do not sell your details as a data product. A referral means connecting a call, not distributing your information.

The conflict, stated plainly

A referral model pays when you call someone. That creates an obvious incentive to tell you to call someone about everything. We think that incentive is worth naming out loud rather than hiding, because how we handle it is the main thing that should decide whether you trust the rest of the site.

How we handle it: on any page where the honest answer is that you can do the job yourself, we say so and there is no way to call anyone from that page. Cracked pipe boots, debris in a gutter run, misaligned photo eyes, a downspout that needs extending — those pages end with instructions, not a phone number. We lose the fee on those pages on purpose. It is the only version of this model that is worth running.

Where our figures come from

Cost ranges are drawn from published industry pricing data and contractor quotes. Prices move with region, with access, and with how much has to come off before new work goes on, so we publish ranges rather than single numbers, and we say what drives a quote to the top or bottom of one. Where sources disagree meaningfully, we would rather show the spread than pick the flattering end of it.

Where we could not verify a figure, we leave it out rather than publishing a number that sounds authoritative and is not.

What this site cannot do for you

We are not licensed contractors, engineers or insurance adjusters. Nothing here replaces an inspection by someone qualified who has seen your house, and building codes are set locally — confirm requirements and permits with your own jurisdiction. This site does not run a general enquiry desk, and the service lines connect you to contractors rather than to us.
