Wind lifts and creases shingles, usually along one exposure. Hail fractures the shingle mat in circular bruises scattered across all slopes.
The distinction matters because many policies carry separate wind and hail deductibles set at different amounts — sometimes a flat dollar figure for one and a percentage of the insured value for the other. Check your declarations page before you assume the two are treated the same. A creased shingle that has released its sealant strip will blow off in the next storm even though it looks attached now.
