Class 4 impact-resistant shingles carry a premium discount with many carriers in hail-prone regions. If you are replacing anyway, ask your insurer what the discount is before choosing the product — it sometimes pays back a meaningful share of the upgrade. The discount varies a great deal by carrier and by state, so get their figure rather than a contractor’s estimate of it.
